Art = Danger,
2000-2007
"How is an artist's
life dangerous? What are your own experiences?" These are the questions
Catriona Shaw posed to four different artists in 2000 in Munich with the
intention of making a documentary about dangerous practices in art.
Edited in 2007, the intended documentary turned into a study of story-telling
methods and self-dramatization (selbstinszenierung). The content of the
stories themselves, quite often banal, became subsidiary to the dramaturgy
employed by the artists in telling them.
Shaw's vocal responses close the circle, providing typical observations,
questions and polite or challenging emotional expression/reciprocation
that we all have put into play as 'story-listeners'. The viewer is thus
presented with both sides - not only as distant (also scathing) voyeur
of other people's worlds and habits but also as observer of themselves
as the script-writers, actors and directors of such situations.
